Warts are benign, rough protrusions that appear on the skin when the body is invaded by a viral infection through a nick or tear in the skin.
What is it?
Warts are commonly benign, small skin growths resulting from viral infections or strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV). While they pose no significant health risk, many patients choose to have them removed due to their transmissibility through touch and personal preference to avoid their presence on the skin.
Various types of warts exist, including plantar warts, common warts, and flat warts. Common warts typically appear on the hands, fingers, around the nails, or the back of hands. Plantar warts develop on the soles of the feet and can cause discomfort if left untreated. Flat warts can emerge anywhere on the body, while filiform warts exhibit a thread-like appearance, often appearing on the face.
How is it treated?
While there isn't an absolute cure for the virus that results in warts, the Mountain State Dermatology specialists can manage warts as soon as they're noticed to stop their growth and prevent spread to others. Treatment options to eliminate warts include injections, salicylic acid treatments, cryotherapy, excision, chemical peels, immunotherapy, topical creams and laser therapy.
