Biologics are highly-targeted medicines that contain molecules from living organisms. Topicals include creams, ointments, or gels applied to the skin.
What is it?
Many are well acquainted with the use of topical treatments. At Mountain State Dermatology, these are commonly our first solution for various skin issues such as acne, rosacea, psoriasis and eczema. Topical treatments are applied directly on the skin where symptoms are present. Some of the latest topical treatments, such as JAK inhibitors, have been successful in quickly improving conditions like alopecia, vitiligo and eczema, even if other treatments have been ineffective.
Biologics are transforming the way we treat diseases where the immune system mistakenly attacking parts of the body. Biologics are made of molecules from living organisms and can alleviate or even eliminate symptoms of psoriasis and eczema. Unlike synthetic drugs that can impact your entire immune system, biologics focus specifically on the part of your immune system causing symptoms. For some patients at our medical practice, this can lead to transformative results. Biologics function systemically and are typically administered by injection or infusion to fight more severe cases of chronic diseases.
