Rosacea is a common, long-term inflammatory skin condition that causes redness and bumps, most often on the nose, cheeks and forehead.
What is it?
Rosacea is a chronic skin disorder that typically results in inflamed skin or a rash. It predominantly affects adults middle-aged or older and individuals with light skin tone. Due to shared symptoms, some patients confuse rosacea with conditions like acne, an allergic outbreak or eczema. Rosacea manifests as tiny, red, pus-filled bumps on the face, particularly the cheeks, nose, forehead and occasionally the eyes. Symptoms may include facial swelling, dry, scaly skin, visible broken blood vessels, an enlarged nose and continuous skin redness.
Patients can experience rosacea flare-ups from external triggers like sun, wind, extreme temperatures, stress, exercise, hot beverages, spicy foods, alcohol or certain medications.
How is it treated?
