Enlarged pores are depressions in the skin’s surface caused by oily skin, aging and sun damage.
What is it?
While enlarged pores might not pose a health risk, they can significantly impact the skin's appearance, especially cosmetically. Several factors contribute to large pores, including genetic predisposition, increased oil production, aging due to reduced elasticity, increased hair follicle volume, sun damage, specific skin types, persistent acne, hormonal changes, and inadequate skincare routines.
If the appearance of enlarged pores concerns you, our board-certified providers at Mountain State can help. We are proud to offer dermatological care in Bridgeport, Clarksburg, Elkins, Hurricane, Morgantown, Parkersburg, South Charleston and Wheeling, West Virginia; in Waynesburg and Uniontown, Pennsylvania and in Marietta, Ohio.
How is it treated?
Treatment of enlarged pores relies on turning over skin and boosting collagen production. Common treatments include microdermabrasion, microneedling and laser resurfacing. Some patients see improvement with medical-grade skincare products that include hyaluronic acid or retinols. Consult with one of our board-certified providers to see which treatments are best for you.
